West Brom striker Salomon Rondon is edging closer to completing a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle United reportedly willing to meet his £16.5m release clause.

According to Sky Sports, the Venezeulan striker is seen as the ideal replacement for outgoing Magpies striker Aleksandr Mitrovic, who is expected to join Fulham in the coming days after seeing a big money move expected.

Rondon has long been courted by Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez after proving to be one of few shining lights for the Baggies last season as they were relegated to the Championship.

However, it is claimed that a deal may not just involve a straight cash fee, with Newcastle potentially looking at sending Dwight Gayle the other way as part of any deal for Rondon.

The big striker is well known for his workrate and despite a lack of goals to show for his efforts, his performances were impressive enough last season, and it looks likely that those showings will see him back in the Premier League before the big kick off in two weeks time.

Rondon signed for West Brom back in 2015 in a big money move from Zenit St Petersburg, and has bagged 24 goals in just over 100 appearances for the Midlands outfit.
