Wolves suffered another league defeat last night, losing 1-0 to struggling Wigan Athletic, deepening relegation fears at Molineux.

An 88th-minute Jake Buxton goal handed Paul Lambert’s side to their third consecutive defeat in the Sky Bet Championship.

Wolves, who face Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth-round on Saturday, are now just six-points clear of the relegation zone and in a worrying run of form.

The defeat left Lambert critical of Wolves’ performance, he told the club’s official website: “It was really disappointing and I’m angry as well in the manner that we’ve lost the game.

“In any football game, you've got to earn the right to win the game and we’ve never earned the right to win that game - that’s the disappointing thing.“

Wolves’ fans will be looking over their shoulder, with their side facing a difficult run of fixtures following their FA Cup clash on Saturday.

Lambert’s side entertain Birmingham City in a Midland Derby, before facing highflying Huddersfield Town and Reading, in the space of a week.
