Stoke City have signed Huddersfield Town right-back Tommy Smith and Potters fans are excited to have him join the club.

The 27-year-old has joined for a reported fee of £4 million and signed a three-year contract at the Bet365 Stadium.

Smith is the seventh signing Nathan Jones has made this summer, during his first full transfer window in charge of the club.

The defender made 200 appearances for Huddersfield after joining the club as a free agent in 2012.

In the 2017/18 season, Smith captained the Terriers for their successful promotion campaign and Jones will be hoping that his experience can come in useful for Stoke this season.

Speaking to the club website, Jones said: "We want to improve the squad, we want to get better all the time and we believe we’ve done that with the players we’ve brought in.

"Tommy has been playing Premier League for the past two years and was the outstanding right back in the Championship the year Huddersfield got promoted.

"He’s a great age, has a good pedigree, is a wonderful character and a good athlete.”

The Potters slumped to a 16th-place finish in their first season back in the Championship but will be hoping to challenge for the play-offs in Jones' first season in charge.

Stoke have been busy in the transfer market this summer and their latest addition has been celebrated by many supporters of the club.
