Reading today confirmed that Paul Clement has replaced Jaap Stam as first team manager, with his immediate target keeping the Royals in the Championship.

Defeat to Norwich last time out made it nine without a win and left the side just three points above the relegation zone and that was enough for the board to remove Stam from his post on Wednesday.

They wasted little time in searching for a replacement and have brought in the former Derby and Swansea manager who will have eight games to ensure survival.

Clement has experience of a relegation battle with Swansea, having successfully kept the Welsh side in the top-flight last season even though they were struggling when he was appointed.

However, they struggled this season and he was sacked in December and had been out of work since.

Given that, his appointment has generated a mixed response from Reading fans.
