Queens Park Rangers beat Stoke City on the opening day of the Championship.

With Stoke in-line to have a strong season, and QPR candidates for the drop, the opening day clash between the two at the bet365 Stadium should've only gone one way.

But QPR in their brand new strip took the lead after just eight-minutes, Jordan Hugill scoring his first of 13 for QPR to date.

Ebere Eze then put the R's two goals up with an early contender for his personal goal of the season, dribbling through a number of Stoke players before finishing past Jack Butland, and setting the tone for what'd be his breakthrough season under Mark Warburton.

The 21-year-old was the main topic of debate that day:

From the opening day, it was soon clear that Eze would be the star of the show this season. He's now on 12 goals and eight assists for QPR - he's not failed to live up to the hype, and QPR sitting in 13th place of the Championship table haven't disappointed.

It has been a contested season at times though.

QPR have gone through rough spells like any other team, but going into this current break on a six-game unbeaten run, and on the back of arguably their finest second-half performance of the season at Preston, things are looking good.

On the whole though, the first-game optimism set the pace for what was bound to be a 'better' season for QPR - fans weren't expecting miracles in Warburton's first in charge but if and when the football resumes, QPR could yet make the top-six.

QPR fans have long been ones to be optimistic about their fortunes. That unexpected win against Stoke put a lot of things in place for Warburton and QPR, and for Eze, who looks as though he could be heading up to the Premier League in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring him throughout the season, and should he continue to play how he is then it's hard to see him in a QPR shirt beyond this season.
