Last season saw the Bristol City narrowly miss out on a spot in the Championship top-six despite looking likely to finish comfortably within them during the second half of the campaign.

But their summer business shows that they are intent on going one or even two steps further during 2019/20 and they confirmed their seventh deal on Monday night in the form of centre-back Tomas Kalas.

The 26-year-old impressed during a loan spell at Ashton Gate from Chelsea last season and has now penned a four-year permanent deal for a club record fee.

Kalas made 38 appearances in the Championship for Johnson's side and 41 in all competitions, becoming a firm fan favourite along the way.

His arrival came just hours after the signings of versatile Doncaster Rovers man Tommy Rowe and Colchester United goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin were confirmed and follows Jay Da Silva, Sammie Szmodics, Robbie Cundy and Daniel Bentley into the club.

But it is safe to say that it was the arrival of Kalas that really got the fans celebrating...
