Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nyambe will be competing at the Africa Cup of Nations this summer, after making himself available for Namibia and immediately receiving a call up for the 'Brave Warriors'.

Nyambe has enjoyed another impressive campaign at Ewood Park, helping Rovers to establish themselves back in the second tier in their first season following immediate promotion from League One, with some strong defensive displays for the club in his 29 league appearances.

The 21-year-old will join up with his international teammates for a training camp in the United Arab Emirates, before their Cup of Nations campaign begins in Egypt with a group stage game against Morocco on the 23rd June, with games against South Africa and the Ivory Coast to follow.

Speaking to the Namibia Football Association - and quoted by Rovers' official site - about accepting a call up for the first time, Nyambe said:  “I’m pleased to finally join the family. It has always been coming, I have been thinking about it for a while and now I am ready and raring to go! I feel honoured to play for my country and excited to meet the squad soon”.

Taking to Twitter to react to news of Nyambe's call up, a number of Blackburn fans were keen to heap praise on the 21-year-old.
