Salford City have confirmed the loan signing of Manchester United right back George Tanner until the end of the season.

Earlier today, the Daily Mail had reported that the 20-year-old had been in talks with Salford, Wigan and an unnamed MLS side, but was due to sign for Salford later in the day.

The club have moved quickly to make this deal happen and despite interest from the Championship, Tanner has chosen Salford as his next destination.

Tanner had spent the first half of this season on loan at League Two's bottom club Morecambe, but after being recalled by Manchester United has now joined Salford.

The 20-year-old's contract at the Premier League side is set to expire at the end of this season, and this loan signing will no doubt increase Salford's chances of signing him permanently in the summer.

Salford's official Twitter page broke the news at lunchtime today, confirming Tanner has become the club's fifth January signing.

Fans of Salford were quick to welcome their new signing to the club, with fans of other sides happy to point out that Salford have got a top player on their hands.
