‘Weeks overdue’, ‘Right decision’ – Plenty of Shrewsbury Town fans react to major club announcement

Shrewsbury Town have sacked manager Sam Ricketts, the League One club have confirmed.

Ricketts was appointed as Shrewsbury boss back in December 2018, leaving Wrexham – who at the time were fourth in the National League – to take over at the New Meadow.

After guiding the club to 18th in the League One table in 2018/19, the following season saw Ricketts take the club to 15th in a shortened campaign, where they also earned a memorable FA Cup replay against Liverpool.

This season however, Shrewsbury currently sit second from bottom of the League One table, with just one win from 13 league games, leaving them four points from safety, after they blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with MK Dons on Tuesday night.

As a result, Shrewsbury have now announced that Ricketts has been relieved of his managerial duties, while assistant manager Dean Whitehead has also left the club, with a search for their replacements beginning immediately.

Taking to Twitter to react to news of Ricketts’ departure, plenty of Shrewsbury fans appeared pleased with the decision made by the club, and here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.
