Brentford travel to Wigan Athletic in the Championship at the weekend and after the Bees’ winning streak came to a halt at the weekend, we’ll see the true character of Thomas Frank’s side at the DW.

Going into the weekend, Brentford were looking for a fourth-straight league win against Huddersfield Town.

But the Bees lost 1-0 in a clash between the league’s two form sides, and it’s brought Brentford back to earth with a mighty thud.

A midweek win at the home of their West London rivals QPR left Brentford fans in dreamland, and the visit of Danny Cowley’s Terriers was expected to be another routine win.

Frank’s side were outplayed though, and it’s a bleak reminder of how much work there’s still to do at the club if they’re to ever mount a serious play-off push in the Championship.

Every manager will tell you that in this league, anybody can truly beat anybody. There’s never an easy game in the Championship and Brentford found that out the hard way against Huddersfield.

But with a trip to Wigan this weekend, a winnable but albeit very tough outing for Brentford, fans will see the team's true colours unveil after the highs and the lows of recent weeks.

Paul Cook’s Wigan have always been a tough nut to crack - they’re a team who’ll never get dismantled by their opposition, but they also don’t score a whole lot themselves, they’ve managed 13 all season.

One their day though, Wigan can be a match for the best in the league, especially at home. All of Charlton Athletic, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest have made the journey up to the DW this season, and all have lost to nil.

Brentford’s free-scoring front-three of Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo may be kept quiet for a second week running, but if they can nab an early goal then there’s no knowing how many they could get on the day.

Frank’s side missed the chance to go into the Championship’s top half at the weekend, and will be eager to do so with a win this coming weekend.

Wigan will be looking for just their second win in five games this weekend, as they hover only three points above the relegation zone.

Brentford meanwhile are 13th in the league, nine points off the drop and only four of the play-offs - a couple of wins would throw the Bees right into contention.
