Pontus Jansson is beginning to return to the type of form that made him a firm fan favourite at Leeds United last season, with the Swedish defender grabbing two goals in his last three appearances, as well as helping the Whites to seven points from a possible nine.

The 26-year-old’s header on Saturday afternoon handed Leeds a 1-0 victory over Norwich City at Elland Road, helping to move Thomas Christiansen’s side back into top-six contention.

Jansson glanced a Pawel Cibicki free-kick into the far corner in the 41st minute, before producing a big defensive performance to help Leeds to another three points, which has left Christiansen’s side with 13 points from their last six fixtures.

The Swedish international has now been rewarded for a fine individual performance on Saturday with an inclusion in the EFL Team of the Week.

Leeds remained seventh in the Championship despite Jansson’s heroics, but now head into a crucial festive period with a real opportunity to move back into the top-six if they can continue their fine form.

Hull City visit Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, before Christiansen’s side travel to Burton Albion and Birmingham City for back-to-back away fixtures between Christmas and New Year.

The Verdict

Jansson is more than deserving of his place in the EFL Team of the Week, with the defender’s contribution against Norwich superb.

The 26-year-old’s header was the difference between the two sides, but his aggression in defence was also a key factor behind Leeds’ positive result.

With Jansson in this kind of form, the play-offs are a real possibility for Leeds.
