West Bromwich Albion midfielder Romaine Sawyers produced a man of the match performance in the Baggies' 2-0 win over Stoke City last night, leaving many Leeds United fans frustrated that they missed out on him in the summer.

The 28-year-old helped West Brom secure a victory that saw them overtake Leeds and move to the top of the Championship.

Sawyers signed from Brentford in the summer and has been an integral player for the Baggies this season, starting every Championship game and averaging the fourth-most key passes (1.3), most passes (69.6), and highest pass success rate (91.6%) in the squad, according to Whoscored.

According to the Daily Record, Leeds and Celtic were also in the hunt for the midfielder back in July but both clubs missed out as he joined West Brom for a reported fee of £3 million–which so far has looked a real coup.

Leeds didn't end up strengthening in central midfield in the summer and have been caught short at points this season–with both Adam Forshaw and Jamie Shackleton picking up injuries at the same time.

Sawyer's recent performances do not appear to have gone unnoticed by many Whites fans, who took to Twitter to express their frustration at missing out on the 28-year-old.
