‘We won a game!’ – Coventry City fans erupt with delight after win against Port Vale

Coventry City prolong the inevitable of relegation to League Two with a edgy victory at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday evening, as Port Vale were the visitors at the Sky Blues.
The hosts were sitting bottom of the table before kick-off and would hope to close the gap with 23rd-placed Chesterfield with three points, but the fear of playing fourth-tier football next season is more or less confirmed.
Mark Robins’ side got off to a positive start when they took the advantage over fellow relegation candidates when Kyel Reid put his name down for ‘Goal of the Season’ contention, with his team’s opener.
It didn’t take long for Coventry City to double the lead as Kwame Thomas put the ball home after Stuart Beavon did all the hard work, putting to bed any unease during the match.
Although Port Vale nicked one themselves in the 74th minute. Nathan Smith was able to put his header over goalkeeper Lee Burge.
That result still means City lie 24th in the League One table on 29 points, fourteen adrift of safety with just seven games remaining before the end of the season.
Here is how their supporters reacted to the performance on Twitter following the full-time whistle…..
We won a game, We won a game, We won a game, We won a game, We won a game, WE WON A GAME #ccfc #pusb

We actually completed a league double over someone this season – that is almost extraordinary ???????? #skyblues #PUSB

Nice that the new Mark Robins era is up & running but it's hard to recall us winning a league game in more meaningless circumstances. #pusb

This is not a drill! Coventry City win a game of football! I repeat this is not a drill! #PUSB

Only 7 more wins and we might have a slim chance of staying up #PUSB

Fairly comfortable win, nice to see a manager not camp 8 players on the goal line after taking the lead #pusb

We won a game! Can anyone remember what to do? #ccfc #pusb
