Football League World's Preston North End fan pundit Tom Coulston believes the loan signing of Aston Villa winger Andre Green is a clever one.

Preston confirmed the deal on Thursday and Coulston thinks that Deepdale can be the ideal environment for the 21-year-old to develop.

"I think Andre Green is a shrewd piece of business for North End," the regular punter told Football League World.

"He’s got experience of the Championship with Aston Villa and also has a promotion to his name.

"Dean Smith clearly rated him and sees that his development could be helped at Preston. Alex Neil turned Callum Robinson from a winger with not much end product into one of the best wingers in the league so if he can do the same with Green I think we will have a real player on our hands this season."

Last season saw Green make 18 appearances for Villa after returning from a loan spell with Portsmouth in the first half of the season, going on to score once and assist one more as they won promotion via the play-offs.

The question now is can he step-up and fill the void left by Callum Robinson, after the North End star completed a permanent move to Sheffield United earlier in the summer?

Last season saw the Republic of Ireland international notch 12 goals and three assists in 27 league matches, however, Coulston is confident the Villa youngster can handle the task.

"I think he could be an adequate replacement for Robinson," he said.

"He’s obviously not scored as many goals as Robinson but I think the promotion with Aston Villa will have helped his confidence and hopefully now he can start adding goals to his game.

"Green is a similar type of player to Robinson so I think it’s a like for like replacement and I think, if Neil can do with Green what he did with Robinson, he definitely could be an adequate replacement."

The winger's arrival takes the club's summer recruitment tally to four after David Nugent, Patrick Bauer and Tom Bayliss all struck deals at Deepdale.

But Coulston still believes that there is room for another winger at the club to provide some competition for Green.

"I do think we could have maybe had more of a look at Jamal Lowe who has just joined Wigan," he said

"I also think Ash Hunter from Fleetwood could have been a good signing. I still think there is room for another winger to come in on top of Green if Ginnelly is loaned out like reports are suggesting so hopefully we can get another in."
