Crewe manager David Artell has highlighted Sheffield Wednesday as the biggest club in League One and likened them to Real Madrid, which has caused a stir among fans of the Yorkshire club.

Artell's side host Wednesday at The Mornflake Stadium on Saturday and will be hoping to extend their recent run, which has seen them win consecutive games for the first time all season.

That looks set to be a tough ask given Darren Moore's team are on an 11-game unbeaten run in League One and are 15 places above them in the table.

Artell clearly recognises the size of the task facing the Railwaymen tomorrow as, speaking to club media, he waxed lyrical about the stature of their opponents.

"Sheffield Wednesday are the Real Madrid of League One," he explained. "I don’t know what their budget is but I know that Sheffield Wednesday are a massive club.

“There are some big clubs in this division and then there is Sheffield Wednesday.

“I know Darren Moore is a great guy and he will be looking to take this huge club back up.

“We cannot allow ourselves to be overawed by the occasion. It is 11 men against 11 men and we have to give it a right go in front of our fans and see where we get to.

“They will be bringing over 2,000 fans and that will be great but I must say our fans have been magnificent for us all year and I mean all year. They have been terrific for us both at home and away and they understand that we need them, even more so when one of the big guns rolls into town.

“I want as many of our fans to come along, get behind the team and make sure that ‘we go right here we go’, let’s give it all we have got and see what happens.”

It's been some time since Wednesday were likened to one of Europe's biggest clubs but you can see where Artell is coming from as they have a fantastic history and are one of English football's sleeping giants.

A win tomorrow would be another step in the right direction for the Owls but they need to be careful because you feel Crewe will be looking for a scalp.

Unsurprisingly, Artell's comments have caused a stir among fans of the Yorkshire club and many have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts...
