‘We really take him for granted’ – Many Cardiff fans react to match winning display v Stoke City

Many Cardiff City fans have been raving over the performance of goalkeeper Alex Smithies in their win over Stoke City on Tuesday night.

Smithies has been one of the standout shot-stoppers in the Championship this season, and made a crucial save from Sam Vokes’ penalty – which proved the turning point to allow Neil Harris’ side to go on and claim their fourth consecutive victory on the bounce.

Cardiff had initially fallen behind midway through the first-half after captain Sean Morrison turned into his own net.

However, less than 10 minutes after Smithies has wonderfully denied Vokes from 12-yards, Robert Glatzel restored parity from close-range, before Morrison atoned for his error by climbing highest to head home Joe Rall’s 76th-minute corner.

Following their defeat at Coventry just over two weeks ago, Cardiff slipped to 18th in the Championship standings, and Harris’ days as Bluebirds manager appeared limited, but 12 points from four matches has seen the South Wales outfit climb nine places to 9th.

Here, we’ve been looking at how Cardiff supporters have been reacting to Smithies penalty save and general display at the Bet365 Stadium.
