It promises to be another summer of transition at the City Ground as Chris Hughton prepares to make his mark on his Nottingham Forest squad.

The Reds finished 17th in the Sky Bet Championship this season, scoring only 37 goals in 46 matches as they struggled to ignite a play-off push.

After making 14 signings last summer, it looks set to be another busy window for Forest this time around.

Five loan players are set to return to their parent clubs and seven players are out of contract, but further departures are needed.

There are some players, such as Harry Arter, Fouad Bachirou and Gaetan Bong, who fans will want to see leave this summer.

But there are some who hold so much value and fans will be desperate to keep hold of them, but interest could emerge in some this summer.

Here, we rank who we think are Forest's top 10 most valuable players...

Fornah is a player who could really surprise a few people next season.

The young midfielder has enjoyed a really impressive campaign in League One with Plymouth Argyle, making 39 appearances in the league.

He will return to Forest in pre-season, along with Jordan Gabriel and Brennan Johnson, and look to play a part under Chris Hughton next season.

With Samba Sow likely to leave at the end of his contract, Fornah's tenacious and powerful nature in midfield could be key. He could be a great replacement and he is only going to improve.

Gabriel is another talent who has been thriving in League One this term.

Gabriel has been a key player and made 27 appearances in League One for Blackpool this season, helping the Tangerines reach the play-off semi-finals.

At 22, he is still young and this experience with Blackpool could be so beneficial for him.

The full-back has so much potential and could be a ready-made replacement for Fulham loanee Cyrus Christie next season.

Taking away what has been a frustrating, injury-hit campaign, Lolley has been outstanding for Forest in the Championship.

Lolley scored 11 goals and registered 11 assists for the Reds in 2018/19. In 2019/20, he scored nine goals and chipped in with nine assists.

He has been one of the best wingers in the Championship in recent years, and if he can recover from a hamstring injury and get a full pre-season under his belt, then Forest could still be a key player for the Reds.

If he gets back to his best, then his price tag would soar again.

Regardless of how Carvalho has performed for Forest, there can be no denying that Carvalho is still a very valuable asset.

Forest paid £13.2million for Carvalho only three summers ago, and he hasn't been able to prove that worth.

In 67 appearances for the Reds, he has scored six goals and registered nine assists.

On loan at Almeria this season, he has registered three assists in 31 games, and is still failing to win everybody over.

Almeria have an option to buy the Portuguese playmaker, who is under contract at the City Ground for another couple of years.

He is still an asset.

Samba is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

Last season, he was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Season after keeping 13 clean sheets under Sabri Lamouchi.

Despite the Reds' struggles this season, Samba has kept 14 clean sheets in 45 appearances, and will be keen to improve on that record next term.

At 27, he is in his prime and you feel that if an offer came in for him, then he would command a big transfer fee.

The Congolese shot-stopper is one of the best they have had in recent years.

Mbe Soh joined from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and is seen as a really exciting long-term prospect.

The 19-year-old has struggled for regular game time this season, falling behind Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Tobias Figueiredo in the pecking order.

The Frenchman has made seven appearances in the Championship this term, and it remains to be seen whether the next step is a loan move away.

But Mbe Soh is still a teenager who has come through the ranks at one of the biggest clubs in world football.

With time, he could be such an important player and a massive asset for Forest.

A number of summer signings failed to make an impact this season, but McKenna has proven to be the addition of the season.

The Scotland international has produced a number of solid performances for the Reds in the heart of defence, whether that be alongside Joe Worrall, Loic Mbe Soh or Tobias Figueiredo.

McKenna has really thrived as a left-sided centre-half under Hughton, and at 24 years of age, he is only going to get better after joining from Aberdeen in the summer.

If they can keep him fit and keep Joe Worrall at the club, Forest could have the best defensive partnership in the league next season.

Mighten is still a young player who has plenty of potential.

This has been his first full season in the first-team and he's come on leaps and bounds, scoring three goals in 24 league outings.

The next step for him will be to push for the 46-game mark in the Championship, and at 19, he is only going to get better and grow in confidence.

He's attracted interest from some big clubs in the past and is under contract at the City Ground for a lengthy period of time.

In regards to the long-term, he is such an exciting prospect.

It's hard to look past Johnson here.

The 19-year-old made his debut for Wales earlier this season and has been such an influential player for Lincoln City in League One, helping them reach the play-offs.

Johnson has scored 12 goals in all competitions and registered a number of assists this season, and has been one of the standout performers in League One.

He looks set to return to the City Ground and become a key player for Chris Hughton next season, with Brentford and Burnley being linked with his signature.

We believe that Worrall is Forest's most valuable player.

In fairness, it has been a frustrating campaign for Worrall who has endured difficulty with injuries.

In the early stages of the season he broke his ankle, and cracked a rib in the final few months of the campaign.

But the defender has come through that and has been a rare bright spark for the Reds this season, producing a series of excellent performances in the heart of defence.

Worrall is wanted by the likes of West Ham United, Burnley and Norwich ahead of the summer, and if he was to be sold, he'd cost a lot.
