The inquest into Leeds United’s embarrassing FA Cup defeat to Newport County is continuing today, with the club’s supporters highly critical of Thomas Christiansen’s squad, who suffered a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to their Sky Bet League Two opposition.  

A Conor Shaughnessy own-goal and a Shawn McCoulsky header late in yesterday’s contest cancelled out Gaetano Berardi’s first-half strike, sending Leeds crashing out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

Berardi’s strike was the only highlight for Leeds, with the 29-year-old bagging his first ever goal for the Whites on an afternoon where he captained the side from defence.

The Swiss defender was also magnificent in defence, and without him, you could argue that the result would have looked a lot worse for the Whites.

Whilst many of yesterday’s starting XI were receiving plenty of criticism on social media, Berardi was one player to come out of yesterday’s game with credit.
