Sheffield United have today confirmed on their official website that 28-year-old attacker Jay O’Shea has rejected the option of a two-year deal at the club.
The Irishman spent the second half of the season on loan at Bramall Lane from fellow third tier side Chesterfield, netting three goals in ten league appearances to help Chris Wilder’s men seal the League One title.
However, with his contract up at the Proact Stadium, Blades boss Wilder offered him the chance to stay in Sheffield ahead of their return to the Championship next season, but it’s an offer O’Shea has turned down.
The attacker spent four years at Chesterfield between 2013 and 2017, making over 200 appearances for the Spireites and netting 42 times, and has also enjoyed spells at Birmingham City, Middlesbrough, and Milton Keynes Dons during his career.
Nonetheless, he is now a free agent and on the lookout for a new club, and his departure from Bramall Lane has drawn a response from some Blades fans on Twitter, with many wishing him well in the future…

@SUFC_tweets Fair play, barely got a game in League 1 so I can’t see that changing a level up, we need better anyways

While some feel that it’s not a huge loss for the club as they look to strengthen ahead of their Championship campaign next term…
