‘We lost to those bottlers’ – Preston North End fans left fuming with Rams showing

Up until around 2.30pm this afternoon, Preston North End could have been considered play off contenders. Sadly, the 1-0 defeat to Derby County surely leaves them with a mountain to climb if they’re to finish in the top six.

Preston’s run in isn’t as taxing as it could be and with just two points separating them and the top six ahead of the 3pm kick offs, the chance is still there to snatch a play off spot. However, it looks less likely than it did a couple of hours ago.

On the face of it, there’s little shame in just missing out. Preston isn’t a footballing hotbed, nor do they have a huge budget or resources at their disposal. However, defeat to derby County has not gone down well with their fans.

Tom Lawrence’s free-kick gave Gary Rowett’s side their first win in nine games and put them back in amongst the favourites for a top six finish, but home fans don’t see themselves as having lost to a rival. They see the 4-1 defeat at Sunderland and the long winless streak and consider their own side wholly inadequate.

They’ve taken to Twitter to vent their anger at what they perceive to be a lack of ambition on their sides behalf.
