Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin has told the club's official website that a desire to get all three points spurred them onto victory against Brighton.

Newcastle travelled to Brighton and Hove Albion in a top of the table clash last night and triumphed 2-1 to go back to the summit of the league.

Glenn Murray's first half penalty gave Brighton a slender lead which they kept until the final ten minutes.

Mo Diame scored a fluke equaliser before substitute Ayoze Perez swept home the winner right at the death.

Yedlin told nufc.co.uk:

"We wanted to come here and get three points – we obviously wouldn’t be satisfied with a loss and we wouldn’t be satisfied with a draw.

"We wanted to come and get the win and that’s what we did.

“It's a huge result.

There was a bit of luck on our side, but the fight and character that the guys showed was unbelievable.

"I don’t think it was our best game – it wasn’t the prettiest and we had to scrap a bit – but we fight to the end, and that’s a great characteristic about this team."
