It was an exceptional start to 2018 for Aston Villa in the Sky Bet Championship, with Steve Bruce’s side making a major statement in the race for promotion by handing Bristol City a 5-0 defeat.

A goalscoring brace from Robert Snodgrass, combined with goals from Scott Hogan, Birkir Bjarnason and Conor Hourihane, handed Villa three points against Bristol City, who were left embarrassed by their play-off rivals.

Bruce’s side are now back inside the Championship’s top-six, having recorded back-to-back victories over Middlesbrough and the Robins.

Villa’s magnificent start to 2018 was appreciated by Jonathan Kodjia, the club’s striker who is out of action for a lengthy period with an ankle injury.

The 28-year-old issued a message to his teammates following yesterday’s victory, encouraging Villa to make 2018 a year to remember.

Following the striker’s message, Villa’s supporters were keen to react and bombard Kodjia with questions about his injury and return.
