West Brom fan pundit, Sarah Rudge feels that the club have made the right decision in allowing young goalkeeper, Alex Palmer to move out on loan.

The Baggies recently confirmed that Palmer has left the club to join League Two side, Plymouth Argyle on loan for the upcoming season.

"I would personally say yes we have made the right decision to loan him out.

"At just 22 years old he is still very young for a goalkeeper and having not yet made a first-team appearance for us, he needs regular first team football at a lower level.

"It’s no secret that we are short on numbers as a squad and we require additions, but Palmer needs to develop away from the Hawthorns at this stage of his career."

Rudge also felt that Palmer isn't anywhere near the standard required to be a regular starter for Slaven Bilic's side next season, and insisted that the West Brom boss has better options available to him at this moment in time.

Palmer hasn't made his first-team debut for West Brom yet, and will be keen to make the most of this loan spell with Plymouth, as they target an immediate return to League One.

"I definitely think Bilic has made the right choice. Sam Johnstone is comfortably our number one goalkeeper at the moment.

"With Jonathan Bond as his understudy, who has also performed impressively in the FA Cup last season against Brighton, there would be little to no chance for Palmer to seriously challenge at present."

The West Brom fan pundit feels as though Palmer could be challenging for a starting spot in the first-team in the future though, especially if he can find consistency in his performances out on loan.

"I see no reason why he can't feature in the future, even though I haven’t watched him play a whole lot. But making the decision to loan him out as opposed to selling him tells me he is valued and thought of highly at the club.

"As long as he gains valuable experience with Plymouth and then perhaps at higher levels over the next couple of years, he could certainly challenge for a spot in our first team."
