Sheffield Wednesday maintained their strong start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Luton Town at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

Football League World's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Thomas Fogg issued his thoughts after the win, which made it three wins from their opening four games.

"The first-half performance was well below par, we didn’t control the middle of the park and our only idea was trying cross-field balls in behind their full backs which didn’t work.

"We surrendered much of the territory in midfield and we gave them too much respect.

"There was so much more energy and intensity in the second-half as we kept a higher line and tried to press their defence a lot more. On balance of play I would say a draw would have been a fair result and we were lucky not to concede.

"I’m not convinced at all having Adam Reach in the midfield 3 as it does not play to his strengths and also it pushes Barry Bannan to play deeper, when he does his best work when given more of an advanced role linking midfield and attack."

Kadeem Harris netted the only goal of the game on the night, and Fogg issued high-praise for the winger after his impressive start to life with the Owls.

"When we signed Kadeem Harris I thought it was an ideal signing for us and he is certainly living up to that expectation. He always shows for the ball and as the old saying goes, loves to get some ‘chalk on his boots’.

"He was one of the few who came out with any credit after the Millwall game and last night (against Luton) he was excellent.

"He is playing on the left wing and loves to cut inside however he is not easy to read as a defender and I’m sure he’ll give a few right backs nightmares this season."

The Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit was pleased to see some much-needed depth added to his team over the summer, although he thinks one area is a cause for concern.

"The squad this season looks to have good depth. Borner has looked class in central defence and we’ve added players in positions we were short in and we certainly have options in most positions.

"I would worry if Fletcher got injured as Winnall/Rhodes look miles off the pace and I think the full-back positions are our weakness defensively. It will be interesting to see how we cope against the better sides in the division as I feel the fixture list has given us (on paper) a relatively easy start."

Fernando Forestieri was an unused substitute against Luton, and has only played in 12 minutes of their league campaign this season.

Fogg doesn't expect to see the Italian in the squad as much this season, as Kadeem Harris currently occupies his starting spot after some strong performances.

"The mysterious case of Fernando Forestieri continues. Despite being eligible while his FA appeal is considered, he is not getting minutes on the pitch.

"I think his best position is on the left hand side (where Kadeem Harris is playing) and as a result he may struggle to get game time there any time soon.

"We have missed someone who can play in between the lines of the opposition so I am slightly surprised he’s not playing but if we’re honest, he has not been the same player for the last 18 months or so and in hindsight we should have cashed in on him a while ago."
