Leeds United have lost three of their last four in the Championship, but still sit in first position after 28 matches of the 2018-19 campaign.

The defeats to Hull City, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City will be slightly concerning to the club’s fans, but the Whites are still the favourites to win the Championship title this term.

Marcelo Bielsa has had a huge impact on the squad since arriving last June and he will be looking for a reaction to Saturday’s defeat away to Stoke when they travel to Rotherham United next weekend.

It is shaping up to be an exciting 2019 for Leeds despite the fact that the year has not started too well in terms of results.

With that in mind, we have picked out three things that we expect to happen at Leeds over the course of 2019.

Promotion to the Premier League

Leeds have been absent from the Premier League since 2004, which is simply too long for a club of their size and ilk. This is their ninth straight season at Championship level since returning to the second tier from League One.

They are the favourites to win the Championship this season and we expect them to be promoted to the Premier League for the 2019-2020 campaign.

Ultimately that might come through second spot or the playoffs, but the Whites should be back in the top flight where many feel that they belong.

An exciting summer transfer window

The thought of a newly-promoted Leeds entering the summer transfer market with the pull of Bielsa is a very exciting one for the club’s supporters.

Kiko Casilla has been attracted to Elland Road from Real Madrid this month and there will be plenty of top-level players interested in playing for the club next season if they can offer Premier League football.

Leeds to break their transfer record

As it stands, Leeds’ record transfer is the £18m that they paid West Ham United for a certain Rio Ferdinand in 2000.

At the time, Ferdinand was the world’s most expensive defender and helped the Whites reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

It seems likely that the Whites will break their transfer record this summer if they gain promotion to the Premier League.
