Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has admitted that Kasey Palmer could be a good addition to the Addicks' squad following recent reports of Bristol City offering the midfielder in a deal which could see Lyle Taylor go the other way.

Football Insider reported the Robins' plans on Tuesday with Palmer having tumbled down the Bristol City pecking order and a new striker a priority this January.

However, Smith does not want to see Taylor leave under any circumstances this month, even if it meant bringing in a player like Palmer.

"Funnily enough Kasey played his youth career at Charlton before being poached by Chelsea so would be familiar with the club," the regular punter told Football League World.

"We do need reinforcements in midfield with Gallagher leaving and a ridiculous amount of injuries so a loan deal could suit all parties.

"However, I don’t believe Charlton should look to be letting Taylor leave under any circumstances in this window."

With 29 matches played, Lee Bowyer's side currently sit in 19th place and just six points above the relegation zone as we head into the business end of the season.

So far this month the only new signing to arrive at The Valley is versatile forward Andre Green, who came in on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season.

Next up for The Addicks is a huge clash with Barnsley, and a loss could see them sitting just three points above the relegation zone again.
