Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has given his thoughts on a report by the Daily Mail which suggests that midfielder Conor Gallagher is a target for Premier League Burnley, with the Chelsea youngster currently on loan at the Valley.

Gallagher has been one of the Championship's most impressive young players this term, racking up an impressive six goals and two assists in his opening 21 games for the Addicks.

Naturally the 19-year-old's bright start to the campaign hasn't gone unnoticed in the upper reaches of English football, and as such the youngster could well be on the move once more after his spell at Charlton ends.

We caught up with Smith earlier today to discuss the rumours surrounding the club's impressive loanee and here is what our fan pundit had to say on the speculation:

"It’s a difficult one to judge really, I think he has the potential to go all the way in the game but on the other hand he is still learning and finding his feet in mens football.

"So another six months at this level I think would better serve his development right now.

"Bowyer will continue to teach him the right things and I think even Chelsea will have been surprised by just how well he has done up to this point.

"I also doubt that he would fit into the way that Burnley play football, as their direct style of play could limit the amount of time he gets in possession.

"From our perspective, we simply couldn’t afford to lose him in January, it’s as simple as that."

Gallagher will be keen to carry on showing Chelsea what he can do at Charlton, with the 19-year-old having already surpassed expectations this term.

The future looks bright for the academy product, who it would be fair to say will most likely be gracing the Premier League stage sooner rather than later if things continue the way they have for him.
