Hull City are a team that could surprise a few in the Championship next term, especially if they can build on a number of successful performances under Nigel Adkins, who left the club at the end of last year's campaign.

Grant McCann took charge of Hull as Adkins' successor, and it will be interesting to see whether they can improve on their 13th place finish from last season.

So, what can we expect to see from Grant McCann's side this season in the Championship?

Football League World's Hull City fan pundit, George Millward previews the new league campaign, which gets underway on Friday evening.

How would you sum-up Hull's transfer business so far this summer?

"Hull's transfer window has been average. We have signed five players and not let go of any key players.

"There is still one week to go, but if we can hold on to our big players, Bowen and Grosicki and sign a few more players, we will have had a very good window.

"The signings we have made are decent, but not the best. If you're pushing for the play-offs, you have to spend lots of money.

"We are not doing that. We are bringing loans, free agents and spending bare minimum on players."

One team you expect to do well in the Championship this season?

"I expect Stoke to do very well this season as they've brought in lots of quality, and spent a lot of money. Bringing Powell in on a free is a bargain, even though he is injury prone, he brings a lot of quality to the squad."

One player that we should be keeping an eye out for in this year's league campaign?

"One Hull player to be looking out for is Jackson Irvine. Under Grant McCann he has been given licence to push forward.

"In pre-season he has scored the majority of our goals, he has an aerial presence and is technically very good with the ball. I expect him to score many goals from central midfield this season."

Can we expect to see any young players forcing their way into the first-team this season?

"I expect Keane Lewis-Potter to be pushing for a first-team spot as we do not have Championship proven strikers.

"Also Jacob Greaves, but it will be very hard because they face strong competition, with the likes of Reece Burke and Jordy De Wijs.

"New signing,Sean McLoughlin is one for the future as well.  I can see us loaning him out, as he will struggle to get in the starting XI anytime soon.

"Keane Lewis-Potter has a good chance of playing this season as Tom Eaves is not fully fit and Nouha Dicko has not proven himself yet for Hull, as he struggled for game time under Adkins. This is the season to prove his worth."

Where do you expect Hull to finish in the Championship this term?

"I can see Hull finishing mid table as we can’t compete with the big spenders in the league. If we can bring in the likes of Herbie Kane and Ben Marshall, I think we can be pushing near the play-offs."
