New Birmingham City signing David Edgar believes that the rebuilding process underway at the club will help the team to blossom.
The 27-year-old joined the Blues from Championship runners-up Burnley on a Bosman this summer, and believes that the club revamp led by manager Lee Clark could replicate the recent success of his former club.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Edgar said: “It was only two seasons ago that Burnley stayed up with two games to go, and then look what happened the next season.
“I am not saying that is going to happen again here. We are in a rebuilding process.
“The rebuilding thing is huge because the manager’s getting his own players in, those he wants in. He is not messing about.”
Manager Clark has already brought nine new players to St Andrew’s, and Canadian international Edgar has admitted that they have settled in well and team spirit is not an issue.
“Team spirit was massive for Burnley, grinding out wins where we would have lost before. And it is going to be massive for our squad.
“At Burnley it was a small, tight squad. The manager is going to build one here, you will see it blossom.
“And if Burnley is anything to go by, it could be a fantastic season here, you just don’t know.”
Birmingham disappointed in the Championship last season, finishing 21st and narrowly avoiding the drop to League 1 only on goal difference.
