Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has revealed that he has his full squad available to him and is confident the Addicks can survive if the Championship returns, which has been well received by many fans of the South London club.

It has been more than two months since the EFL season was brought to a halt but there is reported optimism that the Championship could return in June.

Clubs in the second tier of English football have been back in training this week and few will be more determined to hit the ground running than Charlton, who had dropped into the relegation zone for the first time the week before the delay.

Speaking to the club website, Bowyer revealed he was confident the Addicks could survive and that he had a full squad available to him.

He said: “It’s going to be a nine-game season now and the teams who get the most points are going to remain in the division.

“I feel that we’re going to be ready once that starts. We’ve got a full squad, which we didn’t have for a long time, so I’m looking forward to getting back playing again.

He added: “I’m very confident (of securing Championship survival). I believe in the players that we have. We have proven that when we have a full squad we can compete with all the teams in this division.

“We were in a bad place at one stage and that was just purely down to the number of injuries that we had. Once we started to get a few back then we started to pick up results again, we went to Forest and got a good result on a Wednesday evening. We’ll be ready and I believe in the squad we’ve got to get us out of this.”

The South London club have faced some significant off-field issues over the last few months and question marks over the ownership and a potential takeover remain but the squad's focus must now shift to ensuring they can extend their stay in the Championship.

Charlton are 22nd in the table – one place and two points away from safety – and will know if they can return to the level they showed in the first few months of the season they should be fine.

Bowyer's side were pushing for a top six place early on in the 2019/20 campaign but a string of injury issues contributed to their slide down the table.

The Charlton boss' recent comments have been very well received by fans of the Addicks, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
