Football League World's Barnsley fan pundit Dan Sykes has given his honest thoughts on the club's reported targeting of non-league winger Reggie Young.

The 20-year-old was released by parent club Woking this summer but impressed during a loan spell with Farnborough last season, netting ten goals and assisting seven more, with Football Insider reporting that Daniel Stendel is now interested in bringing him in.

But with the likes of Mike Bähre, Jacob Browm, Jordan Green and Mamadou Thiam, as well as new arrivals Luke Thomas and Mallik Wilks, already at the club, it is not an area of the field that Sykes believes needs strengthening any more.

"He is another winger or wide forward," the regular punter told Football League World.

"And whilst Reggie Young is clearly rated by a number of Football League clubs, I understand Brentford were looking at him in January, I think we already have sufficient depth in this area.

"If we are to sign him it will probably be to join up with the under-23s, at least initially.

"And I'm not sure the player would be interested in that given that he could join a team further down the leagues and get regular game time."

Young is unlikely to be short of suitors this summer having played twice on trial for League Two Colchester United already in pre-season.

For Barnsley, it has been a busy transfer window. First choice centre-back pairing Ethan Pinnock and Liam Lindsay have both been sold to Brentford and Stoke respectively whilst nine new faces have arrived at Oakwell.

And with all things considered, Sykes has been impressed with what he has seen so far.

But he is still holding out hope of a couple more new arrivals.

"Generally, Barnsley have had a productive transfer window," he said.

"But I think there could still be one or two more to come in. Ideally a left back and an out-and-out striker, hopefully a transfer record-smasher."
