Former QPR winger Wayne Routledge has claimed that Adel Taarabt was 'blessed with a football'.

The Moroccan international, who currently plays for Portuguese giants Benfica, is best remembered in England for his time with the R's, where he often shone.

His best campaign came in 2010/11 when he scored 19 goals and registered 21 assists in what was a ridiculous year for the creative midfielder as QPR won the title.

However, his ability was well-known before that and Routledge had played with Taarabt at Loftus Road the season before they went up as champions.

Given they are both attacking players, they would regularly link up and one particularly sublime assist from Taarabt was shared on Twitter in a video that looked back on his best moments.

It prompted a response from the current Swansea winger, who gave an insight into just how good Taarabt was.

With Routledge having enjoyed a very good career, playing for Spurs, Villa and Newcastle among others, the fact he commented on Taarabt indicates just how highly he rates the playmaker.

The verdict

It's pretty common for players who played with Taarabt to come out and say just how good he was - and it's not a surprise to anyone who saw him play.

He was a joke at times for QPR and R's supporters must love watching old clips of him at his best.

Routledge clearly recognised his quality and the fact Taarabt is still playing at a club like Benfica just shows how good he is, even if he probably didn't fulfil his potential.
