Wayne Rooney has posted an update on social media, after finally making his debut for Derby County in the 2-1 win against Barnsley last night.

The 34-year-old joined Derby as a player-coach back in August and after months of anticipation, he was finally able to make his debut for the team last night and played for the entire 90 minutes in central midfield.

Rooney captained the side and had a hand in both goals, as the Rams picked up another much-needed three points under the lights at Pride Park.

Jack Marriott gave Derby the lead on the stroke of half-time, when he turned in Rooney's in-swinging free-kick. Barnsley equalised just five minutes after the restart, but the hosts took the lead again seven minutes later through Martyn Waghorn.

Rooney was involved again, picking out Andre Wisdom with a superb cross-field pass, who then provided the low cross for Waghorn to score his eighth goal of the season.

England's all-time record goalscorer got a brilliant reception from the Derby supporters at Pride Park and after the game, he took to social media reflect on his debut for the Rams.

With a message on his personal

The Verdict

Rooney put in a very good performance on his debut for Derby last night and I'm sure he'll be absolutely delighted to get his career for the Rams off to a winning start.

There were some Derby fans who felt that Rooney's debut for the team couldn't come soon enough and he certainly showed his quality last night.

It was his first game in over two months, so his performance should give him a lot of confidence and he'll be looking to build on that performance going into his next few matches.
