Wayne Rooney has stated his ambition is to get Derby County back into the Premier League.
The England legend is available to play for the club from January but he has been helping coach the side in the meantime until he’s eligible to start for the Rams.
Rooney has had a magnificent career and is a club legend at Manchester United, whilst having the goalscoring record for his country.
And, he’s now hoping that his experience and prowess in world football can help Phillip Cocu and the Rams in their quest for the Premier League over the next couple of years.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Rooney said: “Now my ambition is to get Derby back in the Premier League and hopefully play my part there for them. Ryan Giggs was able to play into his late thirties in the Premier League and Gareth Barry says he wants to do it at 40.
“It’s important to understand football. It is not all about running round, it is about using your head to play the game.”

It’s still a quite staggering move from Rooney, and it’ll be interesting to see how he is able to get on in the Championship. He’s played in a lot of high-class tournaments, with and against the best players in the world, so it will only be a good thing for Derby.
As he says, it’s not all about running and that he can see the importance of using your head in the fixtures.
His experience could be invaluable for Derby, and even though they’ve endured a tough start to the season, who knows where they might end up.
