Wayne Rooney has revealed that Jordon Ibe could make his first Derby County appearance since signing permanently at Millwall this weekend.

The winger joined the Rams in the summer after a tough few years with Bournemouth, and it was hoped that he could get his career back on track at Pride Park by playing week in, week out.

However, the past few months have been hugely frustrating for Ibe, as he is yet to make a matchday squad because of injuries that have held him back.

The 24-year-old is back in training now though, with Rooney telling The Athletic reporter Ryan Conway that he has been impressed with Ibe this week ahead of the trip to The Den.

"You can see that sharpness coming back to him. He's certainly given me a decision to make."

The former Liverpool man would surely be a welcome return for a Derby side that have endured a dismal start to the season, winning just once in 15 in the league. That has left them bottom of the Championship and five points from safety.

The verdict

Derby fans will be encouraged by this update as the team is lacking a spark in the final third, which Ibe can hopefully provide.

It's also pleasing for the player. He has had a torrid time with injuries, so the fact he is back training and doing well should give Ibe confidence.

Now, it's down to Rooney to make the call on whether he plays this weekend, but with five subs and an extended bench, Ibe surely must have a chance of being involved.
