Ollie Watkins scored twice as Brentford beat Swansea City 3-1 in the Championship yesterday.

The Bees moved up to 3rd in the table with another fine win at Griffin Park.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring and Watkins doubled it in the first-half. Andre Ayew pulled one back in the second but Watkins sealed it in the 88th minute with his 15th Championship goal of the season.

He took to Instagram after the win last night, posting this message:

Thomas Frank has been one of the most under-stated managers this season. He looked destined for the sack after a dismal start to the season but he soon got Brentford firing, and has them looking like serious contenders for a top-six spot, if not in the top-two.

Watkins has been the star of the show. The Dane tasked him with the number-nine role this season and many were sceptical, but all have been proved wrong.

He's led the line fantastically and along with Said Benrahma and Mbeumo has forged one of the most prolific, and feared front-threes in the league - between them they've scored 27 goals this season, 73% of Brentford's total goals.

The verdict

The foundations are laid for Brentford to have a really prosperous 2020. A new stadium on the horizon, a solid manager in place and a young, talented team of players has set Brentford's sights on promotion to the Premier League.

Watkins could well be the fire to fire them into the top-flight, and what a story it would be.
