Watford's top priority in the January transfer window is to keep Ismaila Sarr at Vicarage Road for the remainder of the season according to The Athletic.

Sarr caught the eye with some strong performances for the Hornets in the Premier League last season, but his efforts were unable to stop them from being relegated into the Championship.

He scored six goals and was on hand to provide six assists in all competitions last term, and it appeared as though his impressive showings hadn't gone unnoticed.

Manchester United's interest in signing the Watford winger has been well-publicised, although it remains to be seen as to whether an official bid has been made to land his signature.

Sarr has made 21 appearances, and scored four goals in all competitions this season for Xisco Munoz's side this season, as they target promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Hornets are currently sat third in the Championship table, and are seven points adrift of league-leaders Norwich City after 24 matches in this year's campaign.

With a couple of weeks still to go in the winter transfer window, it could be an interesting few weeks ahead in the transfer window, as Watford look to keep hold of Sarr.

Sarr and his Watford team-mates are set to return to action on Friday evening, when they take on play-off chasing Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

The Verdict:

This will be pleasing to hear for Watford supporters.

Sarr really impressed me last season for them, and I'm surprised to see that they've been able to keep hold of him for this long already.

With the likes of Manchester United being linked with a move for the winger, you would imagine that Watford will face a tricky few weeks ahead as they look to keep him at the club.

If they can keep him though, then I expect them to be challenging for an automatic promotion spot in the Championship this season.
