Watford centre-back Ben Wilmot has stated that he takes responsibility for the defeat against Barnsley on the weekend.
The defender gave the ball for Alex Mowatt’s opener, and it put Watford on the back foot inside the first 10 minutes of the match.
As well as that, Wilmot had two good chances from corners, but missed both, and he’ll now look to bounce back in the coming weeks and help the Hornets mount a promotion charge.
Wilmot has expressed that it was his fault, and in some aspects has been harsh on himself after the display.
The Hornets face Stoke City at home in the week, and Wilmot will be hoping to come back with a strong performance and claim a clean sheet.
Speaking to the Watford Observer, Wilmot said: “I take responsibility for today because I gave the ball away for the goal and had two headers from corners; one should have been buried, the other was a bit more difficult.”

It was a superb performance overall from Barnsley, and yes Wilmot made a mistake for the goal, but the rest of the Watford team didn’t help make enough chances to earn an equaliser.
Now, Watford will hope they can get back to finding consistent victories, however they must rectify the goal threat going forward and make sure that they don’t drop too many more points in the future.
It’s set to be an interesting campaign for this Hornets side with the pressure on Watford to pick up enough points to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
