Watford have taken 18-year-old goalkeeper Will Butler on trial, a report from The Bournemouth Daily Echo has revealed.

Butler is currently on the books of Poole Town, and has already made 12 first-team appearances for the seventh-tier club, while he also been capped at senior international level by the British Virgin Islands.

Now it seems as though the teenager's progress, is already starting to attract attention from much further up the English football pyramid.

According to this latest update, Butler has joined Watford on a trial period for the next eight weeks.

It is thought that the goalkeeper will be looking to earn a professional contract that sees him link up with the club's academy, if successful during this trial period.

Prior to making the move to Poole, Butler had been part of the academy setups at both Bournemouth and Southampton as a youngster.

The Verdict

This feels like a big opportunity for Butler that he will surely be desperate to take.

There aren't many players at the level he is at who will get the chance to earn a deal such as this, which could potentially take him to a very high level of the game, so he must ensure he makes the most of this.

Indeed, you imagine the fact that he has been close to this sort of level before during his time with Bournemouth and Southampton, should serve as motivation for him to succeed during this trial.

His senior experience under his belt with Poole and the British Virgin Island is another thing that ought to mean he is well prepared for the challenge of this trial, meaning the 18-year-old has some cause to be confident going into his initial stint with Watford.
