Championship duo Swansea City and Watford could be set to do battle this summer as they look to secure an agreement for AS Roma's Bryan Reynolds.

That is according to GVA in Belgium, who report that their American sources have informed them that the Championship duo are interested in the 21-year-old right-back.

Reynolds is currently on loan to Belgian Jupiler League side KVC Westerlo, but is set to return to Rome this summer.

For the Belgian outfit so far this campaign, the two-cap United States international has appeared a total of 20 times, scoring one goal and registering three assists in those matches.

Reynolds is contracted to AS Roma until the summer of 2025, meaning he will have two years remaining on his current deal the next time either of the Championship duo are able to sign him.

Reynolds' career to date

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, the 21-year-old's career began in MLS, coming through at FC Dallas.

He made his debut for the Texas-based club in 2019 and went on to feature 12 times for them that season.

That same year, Reynolds also spent time out on loan at North Texas SC, making a further 12 appearances for them before returning to Dallas and playing a more prominent role in 2020, featuring 19 times.

Reynolds then went on to join AS Roma on an initial loan deal in early 2021, before his switch to Italy was made permanent that summer, with the loan having included an obligation to buy him for €6.75 million under if certain conditions were met.

Reynolds earnt his first US international cap in March 2021, but has not featured for the USMNT since picking up his second in December of the same year.

The Verdict

This certainly seems like it would be an ambitious move from both Swansea and Watford this summer.

With the player seemingly performing well in Belgium, and having two years remaining on his Roma deal, it surely won't be a deal that will be done on the cheap either.

It could benefit both sides tremendously, though. Despite Watford's signing of Joao Ferreira this January, long term there are surely concerns over Mario Gaspar due to just his age, and Jeremy Ngakia due to his recent injury struggles and Reynolds age profile would seem to fit with plenty of Watford's additions since the arrival of Ben Manga as technical director.

Meanwhile, Swansea have only Kyle Naughton as a recognised right full back at present, and even though others can play there, the 34-year-old's current deal is due to expire in the summer, meaning the Swans may well be on the hunt for a replacement.
