Watford and Crystal Palace have joined West Brom in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Trevoh Chalobah, according to French media outlet L'Equipe.

Chalobah has been with the Blues since 2007, but is yet to make a senior appearance for the club, and has spent the last few seasons out on loan, as he goes in search of regular game time.

The midfielder spent last year's campaign on loan with French side Lorient, and made 30 appearances for them, as they finished 16th in the Ligue 1 table.

West Brom were rumoured to be close to signing Chalobah on a temporary basis for the 2021/22 campaign, but it appears as though they face late competition to strike a deal for the 22-year-old.

The Baggies are preparing for life in the Championship, after being relegated from the Premier League last season, after just one season back in the top-flight.

Watford and Crystal Palace have reportedly joined Valerien Ismael's side in the race to sign Chalobah, although it remains to be seen as to which club is leading the race to land his signature.

L'Equipe also claim that other clubs are interested in signing the midfielder this summer, however they're not named in the report.

West Brom are set to take on AFC Bournemouth in their opening match of the 2021/22 season, in what is likely to be a tricky test for the Baggies at the Vitality Stadium.

The Verdict:

This isn't the update that West Brom's supporters would have been hoping to read.

Chalobah could have been a useful signing for the Baggies, especially when he's got experience of playing in the Championship earlier in his career, whilst with Huddersfield Town.

Additional strength in depth in their midfield options would have been handy as well, but they face a real battle to land his signature it seems.

That could be a losing battle as well, as you would imagine that Chalobah will be tempted by the prospect of playing Premier League football with either Watford or Crystal Palace next season.
