Every football fan is always excited to watch the highlights of any game where they have heard of a wonder strike, or the perfect team goal being scored, and this is no different for fans of the English Championship.

While we are constantly reminded of the quality of goals from players in Europe's top leagues with regular clips from the likes of Neymar, Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi, it is worth remembering some equally brilliant goals are scored by clubs in the lower leagues.

The Championship is always an exciting league full of goals, indeed this season has already seen 1139 goals scored, making it one of the most entertaining leagues in the world to watch.

Trying to pick the best goals from such a vast amount, is always going to be a tough task, but there are some which stand out from the rest, and plenty which could easily make the list.

With this in the mind, FLW writer Lee Connor gives his opinion on TEN of the best goals in the Championship this season....

Jacob Butterfield - Derby V Burnley

This was a stunning striker by the former Barnsley and Norwich man, and it flew off his boot and flew into the back of the net to level the scores at Turf Moor back in January.

While the result that day did not favour the Rams, Butterfields goal sticks out in the memory for being a sweet strike on the volley which essentially came out of nothing.

A stunning goal to befit any game, this one makes it easily into the top ten.

Marco Matias - Sheffield Wednesday V Leeds United

Arguably the pick of the bunch all season in terms of technique, this was a simply stunning goal from the Owl's new summer signing.

Controlling a ball over the top on the right, he flicked the ball over the Leeds left backs head, similar to Paul Gasgcoine in Euro 96, and smashed an unstoppable left foot volley from the corner of the area in off the bar.

It was a brilliant piece of individual brilliance which left most of Elland Road stunned, and surely has to be a contender for goal of the season across the entire continent.

Gary Gardner - Nottingham Forest V Hull City

If you are a fan of a thunderbolt strike from a central midfielder, then look no further than this one from Gary Gardner of Nottingham Forest.

Gardner has a knack of scoring stunning goals, with one at Reading also brilliant, but this was sheer class.

Gardner simply poised himself ready for the lay off, around 35 yards out, and unleashed an absolute rocket off his right boot which simply flew into the top corner of the Hull City goal. It demonstrated Gardner's brilliant technique, and is one of the best strikes you will see in a long time.

Nick Blackman - Reading V Hull City

A simply brilliant team goal by Reading when they visited the KC Stadium earlier this season, which resulted in Nick Blackman finishing in style.

Some brilliant player in the middle allowed the ball to be worked out wide, before a run down the wing saw a low cross delivered across the edge of the box. This is where the magic of the goal happened, as not one, but two back heels from successive players resulted in top scorer Blackman finding himself in space on the left of the box.

Blackman duly obliged with the finish, as he sent a thunderbolt of a shot arrowing into the opposite top corner, to complete one of the best team goals you will see all season.

Alan Judge - Brentford V Rotherham United

A different goal, as it was from the edge of the box, but was delivered with such class it makes it stand out.

When a cross from the right was cleared by the Millers, skillful midfielder Alan Judge was waiting on the edge of the box to pounce. However, instead of trying to lash the ball home, Judge simply cushioned a volley on the side foot right over the Rotherham United keeper and into the top corner.

It was a piece of skill which summed up the class of Judge and the season he has had. Brentford will do very well to keep hold of the play maker in the summer, that is for sure.

Ross Wallace - Sheffield Wednesday V Fulham

To be fair to Sheffield Wednesday, they could well have their own mini competition within this goal of the season article, and I could well have easily picked 5 or 6 of the Owls goals this season.

But I have gone for this one from Wallace, and a second in this list for the Owls.

Wallace picked up the ball just over halfway, and drifted out towards the right. However, he cut in to his left foot, and with little back lift, unleashed an unstoppable strike from around 35 yards which cannoned in off the crossbar to leave the Fulham keeper baffled.

It was not Wallace's only stunning strike this season, but stands out from the rest for me.

Bradley Johnson - Derby County V Hull City

One of the most recent goals in this list, but the goal Derby County scored against Hull on Tuesday night was Barcelona esque.

Plenty of neat passing and interchange down the left hand side, led to the ball being cut back to Bradley Johnson, who was on hand to ram home his 2nd goal of the night in what was a cracking result for the Rams.

It hasn't always gone to play for Derby this season, but if they can reproduce goals like this more often, then they may well be in with a great chance of winning the play offs at the end of the season.

Kevin McDonald - Wolves V Preston North End

The Scottish midfielder is a player who oozes class, and this goal perfectly demonstrated just what he is capable of when he fancies getting on the scoresheet.

McDonald picked the ball up around 30 yards out, and instead of doing his usual head up and look for a killer pass, he saw the opportunity to unleash a shot, and fired a rocket into the top corner leaving the goalkeeper stranded.

It was a fine goal to rescue a point for Wolves, and is something many feel McDonald should be doing more often.

Zach Clough - Bolton Wanderers V QPR

The youngster has been a shining light for the Trotters this season, with many expecting him to move on in the summer, and this goal demonstrated exactly why there  has been so much interest in him.

Clough picked the ball up wide left, before cutting in and unleashing an unstoppable curling effort which left the QPR keeper clutching at nothing.

It was a moment to savour for the youngster, and further proof of his undoubted talent.

Oliver Norwood - Reading V Ipswich Town

The final goal on this list goes to another Reading player, and another midfielder capable of the spectacular.

A quite brilliant individual strike from Norwood, which planted right in the top left corner and left the Ipswich keeper stranded on his line, it demonstrated the quality the former Man United man possesses.

Norwood has quite a reputation for goals like this now, and added another this week against Nottingham Forest with a stunning strike. Reading fans will certainly be hoping for more of this next season.
