There was plenty for Leeds United’s supporters to be encouraged about following Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Norwich City at Elland Road, with the Whites now firmly back in top-six contention heading into a crucial festive period.

Leeds picked up three points thanks to Pontus Jansson’s first-half header, with the Swedish defender’s contribution one of many that impressed at Elland Road, despite Thomas Christiansen’s side performing well below their best.

Pawel Cibicki was perhaps Leeds’ standout attacking player, with the Swedish forward laying on Jansson’s winner with a pinpoint free-kick.

The likes of Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski were well below their best in attack, but footage has emerged of the latter from @WALM0T33, highlighting the fantastic defensive contribution the Macedonian international made at Elland Road on Saturday.

The footage shows Alioski taking a corner for Leeds, before Ronaldo Vieira loses to ball on the edge of Norwich’s area, allowing the Canaries to break.

Alioski covers almost the full length of the Elland Road pitch, as he and his teammates track back to stop Alex Pritchard launching a dangerous attack for Norwich, with the 25-year-old outpacing his opponent before winning a free-kick.

The Verdict

This is one side of Alioski’s game that Leeds’ supporters love, with the Macedonian international never shying away from his defensive responsibilities.

Alioski has bags of attacking talent, which he has shown on more than one occasion this season for Leeds. However, even when he isn’t at his creative best, he offers plenty in defence.

This is further evidence of how hard Christiansen’s side are working for him.
