There was a real sense of relief amongst Leeds United’s supporters following yesterday’s victory over Burton Albion, with Thomas Christiansen’s side avoiding a potential banana skin by picking up three points from the Pirelli Stadium.

Tom Naylor had put Burton into a first-half lead, but quick goals from Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe turned things around for Leeds, who will have felt like their performance was more than deserving of three points.

There were a few controversial incidents from within the game, with Nigel Clough, Burton’s manager, admitting that he felt Gaetano Berardi should have been dismissed for a strong challenge on the stroke of half-time, which the Leeds defender only received a caution for.

Further footage from yesterday’s contest has come to light, with an unofficial Leeds account (@WALM0T33) sharing a video of Naylor putting in a reckless challenge on Ronaldo Vieira, who was left needing treatment.

Like Berardi, Naylor was booked, but there was certainly an argument that both players were lucky not to receive more severe punishment from the match officials.

Luckily for Leeds, Vieira was able to continue and produced the assist for Roofe’s winning goal.

The Verdict

Naylor was extremely fortunate not to receive a red-card for his challenge on Vieira, with forceful contact clearly made on the Leeds player’s leg, which could’ve led to a serious injury.

Of course, Burton will feel aggrieved that Berardi didn’t receive further punishment, but his tackle was far tamer than Naylor’s challenge, as was evident with the treatment Vieira had to receive.
