Derby County’s official Twitter account have shared footage of Darren Bent scoring a sensational training ground goal, as the striker steps up his return to first-team action for the Rams.

Gary Rowett has been without Bent so far this season, with the striker sidelined due to an unfortunate hamstring injury picked up over the course of pre-season whilst taking a penalty.

However, the experienced striker is edging closer to a first-team return, having returned to training during the international break. @dcfcofficial have now shared a training ground GIF of Bent striking a ball into the top corner, alongside the caption: “It’s like you’ve never been away.”

Bent scored 13 goals across all competitions for the Rams last season, but has cut a frustrated figure so far this year, watching Rowett’s side make a promising start to the Sky Bet Championship season.

The Rams entered last week’s international break in seventh, just a single point behind sixth placed, Aston Villa.

Rowett’s side will be looking to break back into the play-off zone this weekend, when they travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Saturday evening.

The Verdict

Derby’s update of Bent is extremely encouraging, and an indication that the 33-year-old is edging closer to a first-team return.

Rowett’s side have done well in Bent’s absence, but Derby will be looking forward to the striker’s return, as he will add another dimension to a strong attacking outfit.

Derby’s supporters will be hoping to see Bent in the form shown in the club’s latest update when he returns.
