Plymouth Argyle are certainly a side that has been through a turbulent time over the past 40 years.

Some of the club’s highlights include a memorable moment in Argyle's history playing a friendly match against Brazilian giants Santos FC, who at the time were one of the best teams in the world.

That day Santos also had arguably the best footballer of all time in their starting line-up – Pelé. However, Argyle shocked the world with a 3–2 win.

They reached the 1984 FA Cup semi-final and also the 2007 quarter finals of the famous competition.

Whilst being saved by iconic Pilgrims hero Paul Sturrock - saving the club from relegation out of the Football League and returning during their spell in the Championship.

Although Plymouth’s glory days are certainly over as they aim to climb out of bottom division in professional English football, here’s some moments that make you proud to be a Pilgrims fan....

This goal will live in the memory of the older Pilgrim supporters that sent the Baseball ground into chaos in 1984 and a place in their first FA Cup semi-final in their history.

You can decide whether this goal was a fluke or not, but this kind of effort will always be a iconic moment.

Barry Hayles v Sunderland
