Cardiff City have enjoyed a sensational start to the Sky Bet Championship season, and currently sit top of the table.

A number of signings that Neil Warnock made in the summer are proving incredibly effective, especially Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, whom the Bluebirds signed on a free transfer.

However, one player signed in the summer who was expected to do a lot better is Lee Tomlin.

The attacking midfielder was signed from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, and he was such a key player for the Robins last season, he was expected to translate that form to the Bluebirds.

Yes, Tomlin has been unlucky with injuries, but is it fair to say it's been a waste of money and a mistake by Warnock?

The writers here at FLW have their say.....

Adam Simeoni

Waste of money, waste of space.

The winger courts controversy wherever he goes, and I was very surprised to see Cardiff move for him in the summer.

Perhaps Warnock felt he could put the player on the straight and narrow and get the best out of him, but he has struggled in a Cardiff side that is doing very well this season. Warnock should cut his losses and get rid of the player in January.

Alfie Burns

Tomlin is certainly not a waste of money, and over the course of the season will prove his worth to Cardiff City.

The creative forward has not had many opportunities to impress since his move to Cardiff, but over the season opportunities will come, and if Cardiff are serious about a push for promotion, Warnock will certainly need to use his whole squad.

Tomlin has the creativity to create something out of nothing, which will be vital for Cardiff when crunch time comes.

George Dagless

It's not looking good, is it?

To be fair to Tomlin, Cardiff have been flying so why would Neil Warnock want to change his side too much?

Kenneth Zohore hasn't been in brilliant form this season, though, and so it's a surprise Tomlin hasn't had much of a chance, with him not taking the rare ones he has been afforded.

Chris Gallagher

As it's transpired, Cardiff haven't needed the guile and creativity of Tomlin, so on the face of it, yes, he has been a waste.

However, his talent is unquestionable and there's a long season ahead. Neil Warnock has proven over the years that can get the best out of players like the ex-Bristol City man and will know what he's capable of.

Unfortunately for Tomlin, Cardiff are doing extremely well without him. However, don't rule out his influence growing as the season progresses.
