Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock claims he’ll be ‘writing to the EFL’ after being handed a second Friday night fixture after the international break.

His side moved into the Championship’s top ten with a 3-0 win at home to QPR on Wednesday night, taking their unbeaten run to seven.

It’s the final game this weekend for his side before the international break, and their next is a home tie against Sheffield Wednesday two weeks from tonight.

This is the second time this season that Cardiff have been handed a Friday night fixture after the international break, the other coming last month at Derby County.

Speaking to the press today ahead of the game at West Brom tomorrow, Warnock said on the situation:

"Once again we’ve been given another Friday night after the international break, one or two of the lads won’t get back to the Thursday. Once you can allow but twice is out of order, really. I will be writing to the EFL.

Despite relegation from the Premier League last season, football fans warmed to Warnock - his often brash take on the modern game and tendency to say things how they are made him an entertaining watch.

The verdict

Warnock is clearly aggrieved. Cardiff’s keeper Neil Etheridge, Leandro Bacuna and Junior Hoilett are all heading out on international duty this month, with the Philippines, Curacao and Canada respectively.

The trio will have to cover a lot of miles to make it back to South Wales in time, and Warnock can only hope their jet lag isn’t too severe come the Wednesday match.
