Thanks to Storm Emma and the Beast from the East, none of the Championship top three played at the weekend.

Second placed Cardiff City saw their match against Brentford called off due to the weather and Fulham's impressive win against Derby County put a little bit of pressure on the Bluebirds from behind.

The Welsh club have been rampant in recent weeks, holding their nerve as Derby and Aston Villa have faltered and allowed Neil Warnock's side to nip ahead.

A break to that momentum was a downside of the match being called off but on the flip-side, it allowed Warnock slightly longer to get some of his squad back to full fitness ahead of tomorrow night's home match against struggling Barnsley.

He told Wales Online: "I don't think it's done us any harm. I think when you look at the work people like Junior Hoilett have done over the last six months, I think the lads were almost glad of a rest.

"Paterson was struggling with an injury too and it gave us a few extra days. We'll have a fitness test tomorrow. Morrison, we're going to leave until last minute but he is training at the minute. Kadeem has done well and he'll probably be in the squad tomorrow.

"Gunnarsson has been training too which is good news. He's back out on the grass. Peltier and Traore should be back for the weekend but Tuesday will be too soon for them as I think they need training.

"Jamie Ward will play in the under-23s on Thursday to make sure he has a good hour. He's fit again but I don't want to risk him until he's had a bit more playing time because he's not had much this year."

The Verdict

There was nothing too new there for Cardiff but it is helpful for them to have had a bit of time to rest and recuperate their players ahead of what is sure to be a gruelling run-in.

Their momentum has been broken slightly but that is tempered by the fact that neither Wolves or Villa were able to play either.

In any case, they couldn't have asked for too many better fixtures than at home clash with Barnsley to get back into action with and I predict a narrow but fairly comfortable home win here.
