Neil Warnock is intending to discuss Lee Tomlin's future with Aitor Karanka.

Lee Tomlin has been on loan at Nottingham Forest since January with Jamie Ward going the other way to Cardiff.

This deal has benefitted Forest a lot more than the Bluebirds because Tomlin has become a key cog in Karanka's system as the attacking midfielder, while Ward has been limited to three appearances due to injury.

In 13 appearances, Tomlin has scored four times and assisted three, but his importance isn't just confined to contributions because he is also important in areas such as winning fouls which allows his team to progress up the pitch as well as taking the pressure off the defence.

Warnock had this to say about Tomlin's future as quoted by The Nottingham Telegraph: "We said we’d talk. I met Karanka at the game last week and we said we’d have a chat at the end of the season about it. He’s a good bloke, but whatever will be, will be on that."

The Verdict

This is still a vague response from Warnock, but the fact that he is willing to talk with Karanka suggests that his future isn't with the Bluebirds.

Signing Tomlin should definitely be a priority for Forest in the summer because Karanka has found a way to get the best out of him in the brief spell he has been at the club. Tomlin and Joe Lolley have also formed a good understanding which could work well if they are give a full pre-season to develop it.
